Unique Home Design: Bringing Nature Indoors

Whether building, remodeling, or redesigning, the design can either give your home the ‘wow’ factor or ‘let’s leave now’ factor.

It’s best to choose a theme (style) for much of the house and making subtle changes in different areas to uphold the look and feel of the home. For this article, our theme is the outdoors and how we can bring nature into a home to create that ‘wow’ factor.

After a fresh build of a beautiful custom home, our friend Travis at Heritage Construction was kind enough to share some insight on inspiration as well as execution during this home build.

INSPIRATION

Upon walking the property with the owners, an idea came about from the landscape where the home was to be constructed. Both the owners and the Heritage Construction are big believers in nothing going to waste.

With this in mind, Travis, from Heritage Construction, visualized the large trees on the property turning into an assortment of items throughout the finished home like furniture, decor, and more…  The owners jumped on the idea and the brainstorming as well as building begun!

To dream and create with our customers masterfully crafted projects that emphasize the use of natural products. We want to be able to showcase our hard work, dedication, artistic creativity, skilled craftsmanship, and do this within the scope of our customers budgets.

Execution

Upon clearing the land, Heritage took inventory of what was available to use and sent it to the mill for preparation. It was decided by the group to use the wood in several spots in the home both as furniture as well as decor. In the downstairs powder room, Travis designed a live-edge countertop featuring actual pebbles from the nearby beach and industrial accents to compliment the weight of the wood. In addition, instead of art work beside the fireplace, Travis pitched the idea of using slabs on each side of the fireplace to suit the house and be a real conversational piece.

While the wood from the property was used in a few other areas, the goal was to get the design ball rolling on how to bring the outdoors in and Heritage Construction did just that. The home turned out beautifully, from the exterior to the interior, the theme of the home was elegantly incorporated.
