The town of Kalispell provides easy access to one of Flathead’s most treasured features –Wild Horse Island State Park. Native tribes once used this island park for grazing their horses without concern of them being stolen. Wild mares still remain on the island, along with bighorn sheep and elk.

Flathead Valley has the perfect conditions to grow all kinds of fruits– such as Montana’s famous cherries! Picking these delicious fruits in season is another treasured activity for locals and visitors. The landscape and life outdoors is one of the many draws that bring people to Whitefish.

Two Indian reservations—the Flathead and Blackfeet—have top-notch trout streams, including the Blackfoot and Bitterroot rivers.
